Eighteen Years On, Still Going Strong

Nelson Mandela was freed after 27 years behind bars, Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke was re-elected for his fourth term, Collingwood defeated Essendon to win the AFL grand final, Christmas was spent Home Alone, and everyone was singing along to Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby; the year was 1990, and Allight completed our 138th mobile lighting tower at our production facility in Perth. Shipped on 2nd January 1991, the prodigal tower #138 recently made a return to Allight Perth. She may have seen better days, but this tower-of-tough is still going strong.

Current owners, FESA WA use the tower - along with its contemporary, tower #139 - for emergency and rescue lighting and events. Towers 138 and 139 are both currently back at Allight for a routine scheduled service and check up. Allight's GM for Product Support Murray Stronach credits quality manufacturing and superior materials for the units' long life, along with regular servicing and maintenance. He was really pleased to see the eighteen year old towers towed in for their latest service; "It's great to see the early ones still doing what they're built to do. Allight have built almost 8000 lighting towers – I see the all new ones going out and then the older ones coming back in for service or maintenance. There's been plenty of advances and changes, but the quality's one thing that's always there. They're built to last."

Almost twenty years on since Ice Ice Baby, it's nice to see that some things are made to last, while others pass.
