Keeping Track
From locating hire fleet equipment, to monitoring engine hours and fuel levels, GPS technology is capable of a whole lot more than pointing you to freeway when you're lost in the 'burbs. Allight's Research and Development team have developed a GPS monitoring system for mobile lighting towers and pumps, available as an option on new products or a retrofit for existing equipment.
Research and Development Manager, Latif Ahmad, sourced the tracking technology then developed and customised the solution to work with Allight mobile lighting towers and dewatering pumps. He explains how the system works and some of its benefits and applications; "It's a versatile little system, and can really enhance productivity and efficient fleet management, by tracking the equipment's location from anywhere in the world, and capturing machine data in real time. The machine transponder communicates with a satellite base station, which relays the global positioning of the machine via a satellite to a web based global view system such as Google Earth. The data captured from the machine is stored on a secure web server, which the user can then view."
In conjunction with Allight's Autostart/Shutdown Kits, the start-up and shutdown times can be set remotely, further modernising and advancing efficient fleet management.
Particularly beneficial for hire fleet managers or for operations with many units over a large area, GPS systems have also been used to combat site equipment theft.
