"That's One Small Step for Man..."
Okay, Allight haven't sent man to the moon just yet, but we are providing backup power to one of NASA's MOBLAS 5 Satellite Laser Ranging Stations.
Owned by NASA and operated by Geoscience Australia, the MOBLAS 5 SLR facility is located about 100kms south east of Geraldton, Western Australia, and plays an important role in Australian and International Geodetics - the measurement and representation of Earth, including its gravitational field, three-dimensionally and in real time. Liaising with NASA's Solid Earth and Natural Hazards Projects, MOBLAS 5 required an efficient, reliable power solution to continue communications in the event of a power cut.
Allight's Steve Bayne organised an FG Wilson P11E2S generating set to provide the WA Satellite Laser Ranging station with 11kVA of backup electrical power, to keep the facility powered during outages. The genset is fully enclosed and weatherproof; heavy-duty and robust enough to withstand the extremities of the Australian outback, and delivering high ambient temperature clearance - a must for the WA area experiencing maximum temperatures in the mid-high 40s during summer.
FG Wilson generators are engineered and manufactured to deliver fuel efficiency, lower emissions and unsurpassed reliability. Combined with Allight's fifteen year association with the UK manufacturer and dedication to providing expert product installation and support, it didn't take a rocket scientist to see that the Allight supplied FG Wilson genset could deliver the optimal power solution for MOBLAS 5.
